A chain saw 10 is provided with an attachment 13 having adjustably-positioned rollers 29, 30, 38, 40 for engaging on opposite sides of a guide G attached to a flat surface L of the log or to a board positioned on the rough surface of the log, so that boards can be sawn from the side of the log as the saw is guided along its length. Cross-members 26, 35 carrying the rollers are adjustably held in a slot 13c in an extension 13b of the attachment by bolts 27, 36. Additional rollers 15, 16, 17, 47, 48 engage the top of the log and the rollers 47, 48 have a slight amount of vertical adjustment. Bolts 14 secure the attachment to the saw bar 11 at such an angle that the saw tends to feed itself into the log. A plate 56 and flexible flap 58 deflect particles cut by the saw.
