940,880. Joining metal sheets. D. C. LUCKHAM. Feb. 5, 1962 [Feb. 6, 1961], No. 4358/61. Headings B3J and B3V. [Also in Division B5] The method of joining together edge to edge, metal or thermoplastic sheets 1 and 2 comprises forming a flange or groove 3, 4 along that part of the edge of each sheet which is to be joined, by bending the edge of the sheet longitudinally, placing the said flange or grooves of the sheets to be joined in juxtaposition to each other and applying over the said flanges or grooves a separate jointing strip 5 which clips over or into the flanges or grooves and holds the two sheets firmly together and indenting the jointing strip. The sheets may be of aluminium and the jointing strip of steel or brass. The indent may be continuous or carried out intermittently over the length of the jointing strip. If the joint is required to be water-tight a sealing compound is inserted into the grooves formed at the edges of the sheets.
