Abstract

940,800. Cooling valves. COMPAGNIE FRANCAIS THOMSON-HOUSTON. April 26, 1960 [April 28, 1959], No. 14594/60. Heading H1D. [Also in Division F4] In a cooling system for an electronic tube having two spatially distinct parts to be cooled which have different degrees of heat energy dissipation, coolant liquid preferably water, is circulated first over the part 1 of the tube having a relatively low heat energy dissipation and then over the part 2 of the tube having a high heat energy dissipation and where partial vaporization of the coolant occurs, the coolant being supplied in a quantity at least equal to that which is vaporized in the cooling of the part 2. In the form shown, coolant is supplied through a duct 3 to a cooling jacket surrounding the tube body part 1 and flows then through a duct 4 to a boiler 5 surrounding the tube part 2. The liquid level in the boiler is limited by an overflow 6. Generated vapour is evacuated through a tube 7, or alternatively through the overflow 6, in which case the tube 7 is omitted. Fig. 3 shows the internal arrangement for cooling the part 2 of the electronic tube. Boiler 5 contains an open-ended cylindrical screen 10 in the upper part of which are inclined vanes 11. The upwardly rising liquid-vapour emulsion is rotated first by vanes 11 and then by oppositely inclined vanes 12. Vapour passes through the tube 7 and liquid flows downwardly through annular space 13 in which its rotational movement is stopped by longitudinal vanes 14. By this arrangement the jacket around the part 2 is said to be maintained full of liquid. Excess liquid passes into the tube 7, the level in which is limited by an overflow 15. An electricallyoperated safety device 16, 18, 19 is fitted to ensure that current may be supplied to the electronic tube only when liquid is present in the cooling jackets. Specification 706,209 is referred to.
