Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of formula Ar2O-C(=NAr1)NR1R2 wherein Ar1 an Ar2 are optionally substituted aromatic radicals and R1 and R2 are H, alkyl or alkenyl (up to C4), at least one of them being alkyl or alkenyl; they are produced by reacting an aryliminohaloformamide with a phenol, or an aryl aryliminohaloformate with a primary or secondary amine. The latter method is used to make the five compounds specified:- Ar1 =4-chlorophenyl, R1=R2=methyl and Ar2=phenyl, 4-chlorophenyl, 4-nitrophenyl or 2,4-dichlorophenyl; Ar1=phenyl, R1=H, R2=methyl and Ar2= 2,4-dichlorophenyl.ALSO:Herbicidal compositions comprise, in admixture with a solid or liquid diluent or carrier, a compound of formula Ar2O-C(= NAr1)NR1R2 wherein Ar1 and Ar2 are optionally substituted aromatic radicals and R1 and R2 are H or an up to C4 alkyl or alkenyl radical, at least one of them being alkyl or alkenyl. Herbicidal tests are made with compounds wherein Ar1 = 4-chlorophenyl, R1 = R2 = methyl and Ar2 = phenyl, 4-chlorophenyl, 4-nitrophenyl or 2,4-dichlorophenyl. The compound in which Ar1 = phenyl, R1 = H, R2 = methyl and Ar2 = 2,4-dichlorophenyl is also specified.
