Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:1006320/C2/1> where Z is hyroxymethyl or a substituted aminomethyl group, R is aryl or substituted aryl, and R2, R3 and R4 are hyrogen or aliphatic or aromatic groups, which may be substituted; and their preparation by reacting a compound in which Z is hydrogen with formaldehyde or with formaldehyde and a secondary amine; solvents and heat may be used. In specified compounds, R is phenyl and (1) Z is morpholino-methyl; (2) Z is 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinolymethyl; (3) Z is piperidinomethyl; (4) Z is CH2OH; (5) Z is CH2OH and R2 is CH3; (6) Z is CH2OH and R2 is CH3 and R3 is CH2Cl; the other R radicals being hydrogen. Other values for Z, R, R2, R3 and R4 are specified. The compounds of the invention are photographic developing agents (see Division G2).
