Abstract

940,496. Masted lift trucks. YALE & TOWNE MANUFACTURING CO. March 27, 1962 [May 24, 1961], No. 11581/62. Heading B8H. [Also in Division F2] The load supporting carriage of a masted lift truck is prevented from tilting transversely by the provision on the carriage of adjustable slide bearings, each of which has a polygonal outer periphery, providing a plurality of bearing surfaces engageable one at a time with a guiding surface on the mast, and may be supported on the carriage in a variety of rotated positions about an axis which is off-centre relative to the outer periphery of the bearing. As shown in Fig. 3, the back plate 20 of the load carriage is provided with stub shafts 17 on which bearings 16 are mounted to engage guide surfaces 18, 19 on the mast. Each bearing comprises a bronze bearing portion, providing four bearing surfaces 22, secured to a square section steel bar having a mounting hole offset from the centre for engagement with the shafts 17. As shown in Fig. 7, the shafts 17 are replaced by hexagonal-section steel bars 26 each welded to the load carriage back plate 20 and each supporting a bronze bearing sleeve 29 which is eccentrically extruded so that each of the six sides of the sleeve has a different wall thickness. Each side of the sleeve 29 has a hole 31 adapted to align with a hole 32 in the bar 26 whereby a removable pin 33 retains the bearing on the bar 26. The slide bearings may also be used in place of the rollers for mounting the secondary uprights 11 on the primary uprights or in place of the rollers 12 for mounting the load carriage on the secondary uprights.
