Abstract
940,427. Feeding sheets. R. WINKLER, and K. DUNNEBIER. July 6, 1961 [Feb. 1, 1961], No. 24422/61. Addition to 858,157. Heading B6B. The apparatus for replenishing a working pile of sheets, which are withdrawn sequentially from the bottom of the pile and fed to a machine for making envelopes, as claimed in the parent Specification, is modified by the provision of a supply pile of sheets 1 which is raised automatically by a lifting means to keep the top sheet at a constant level, oscillating feeler fingers 26 which control the lifting means, an oscillating presser tongue 22 which holds down the sheet below the one being separated, and sheetseparator means which comprises a sucker 16 and rotatable sheet-withdrawing segments 4. Sheet separators and forwarders.-There are two segments 4, secured to a constantly-driven shaft 3, recessed at 6 to provide lips 5, and they co-operate with constantly-rotating resilient rollers 9. The space below the rollers 9 and the curved portion 11 of a plate 10 is connected to a source of suction, and holes 12 are provided in the plate. The sucker 16 is carried by a tube 15 to a hollow oscillating shaft 13 connected to a source of suction. The presser-tongue 22 is secured to an oscillating shaft 20. In operation, the sucker 16 pulls the top sheet 1 from beneath the tongue 22 and raises it to the position 1<SP>11</SP> over the lips 5 of the rotating segments 4, the body of the sheet being sucked temporarily about the plate 10. The sheet is then gripped by the segments 4 and rollers 9 and removed from the pile. Pile tables.-The pile-sensing fingers 26 are secured to a shaft 24 rocked by an arm 27 and a reciprocating link 29. The link 29 is slotted at 30 to fit over the drive shaft 3, and has a roller 32 thereon engaging a cam 35 secured to the shaft 3, and a further roller 34 at the end. A return spring acting on the link 29 causes the fingers 26 to contact the top of the pile of sheets on the table 2, and the height of the pile thus governs the movement of the roller 34 on the link 29. The roller 34 is associated with an electric, electromagnetic, or mechanical switch which controls a driving pawl of known lifting means which is used for raising the table 2.
