Abstract

669,372. Feeding sheets. STAMMINGER, P. July 13, 1949 [July 20, 1948], No. 18461/49. Class 100 (i). Sheet-separators.-Sheets 2 of paper, cardboard &c. are separated from the top of a pile 1 by suckers 3, 4 which seize the middle portion only of the front edge of each sheet, and are assisted by supporting means, such as plates 5, 6, arranged beneath the front edge of the sheet and at each side of the suckers, these plates supporting the end portions of the front of the sheet and being moved with the sheet and suckers to feed the sheet on to a conveyer table A. As shown in Fig. 2, the front end of the sheet 2 has been lifted by the suckers, and air is blowing from nozzles 7. The suckers move the sheet towards the table A, and the plate 5 and plate 6 (not shown) swing upwardly under the sheet until they are substantially horizontal and assist the suckers in placing the front edge of the sheet on the table A. Two sets of nozzles 7 may be used, one for loosening the pile near the top, and the other for separating the top sheet. In the form shown in Fig. 8 the plates 5, 6 do not contact the sheet until a later stage since they are supplied with blowing nozzles, to which air is supplied, to support the sheet pneumatically at the front ends; a guide grid 11 is arranged above the sheet to guide the latter. In the form shown in Fig. 13, the swing- ing plates 5, 6 are mounted on brackets 12 operated by linkages from a cam in co-operation with the suckers. The suckers 3, 4 are fixed to a short tube 16 carried by a block 17 which is reciprocated on guide rods 18 by links 20a connected to arms fixed to a rocking hollow shaft 23. The block 17 is also given an up and down movement by a fork 20 fixed to a second rocking hollow shaft 22. The suckers are connected to a suction means through jointed tubes connected to a conduit 24. In Fig. 17, the plate 5, and 6 (not shown), are first brought into a vertical position at the front edge of the pile to prevent displacement of the sheets during the separation of the top sheet therefrom, and are then swung towards the bracket 12 to support the sheet carried by the suckers 3.
