Abstract
940,019. Electron beam deflecting apparatus. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. Feb. 12, 1960 [Feb. 19, 1959], No. 5802/59. Heading H1D. The distortion effects of the vertical component of the earth's magnetic field upon the raster produced by the scanning coils of a cathode-ray tube are counteracted by employing a non-homogeneous magnetic deflecting field in which the field strength in the horizontal direction increases from one side to the other. In the case of saddle- or castellated-type coils, the horizontally directed magnetic flux produced by one of the vertical coils is increased as compared with that produced by the other vertical coil, by providing more turns on the one coil than on the other. When toroidal scanning coils are used, the correction is effected by positionally displacing the coils relative to the central horizontal plane as shown in Fig. 2A.
