[Also in Group XXIII] Electrical circuit elements comprise a glass plate having, for example, a surface conducting film to which is connected at least one strip or wire with a flattened blade like end, the coefficient of expansion being higher or similar to the glass, the wire being sealed into the glass plate so that the flat part lies flush with the conducting surface, the underface of the blade being sealed into the glass with part of the wire protruding from the plate and the intermediate part embedded mechanically in the plate. Silver wire may be used with glass having a lower coefficient of expansion, and nickel-iron alloy wire with glass of similar coefficient of expansion (e.g. soda-lime glass). Silver wire 1 0.3 mm. diameter (Fig. 1) has a thin blade 2 lying in the surface of a glass plate 3, the upper part of the blade exposed and the underside sealed in the glass, the blade being thin enough to avoid stresses due to unmatched coefficient of expansion. Part 4 of the wire is mechanically embedded in the glass. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 4 the wire is cranked at 10 close to blade 2, the wire leaving the glass plate 3 in the middle of its thickness. After the wire has been sealed into the glass, layers of conductive or alternatively resistive, photo-conductive, or semiconductive material may be deposited on the surface to make contact with the exposed parts of the wire.
