944,603. Solid-state devices. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Sept. 6, 1961 [Sept. 21, 1960], No. 32439/60. Heading H1K. A solid state valve device comprises a dielectric body with a resistivity of between 10<SP>7</SP> and 10<SP>13</SP> ohm cms. having an ohmic and a rectifying electrode in contact with one surface and another ohmic or rectifying electrode in contact with a further surface of the body. The device operates with space charge limited emission. Fig. 1 shows a body 1 of dielectric material such as cadmium sulphide or cadmium selenide having an ohmic electrode 2 composed of indium or stannic oxide and a rectifying electrode 4 composed of gold or copper. An ohmic or rectifying electrode is provided on the opposite surface by strip 6. The ohmic contact constitutes either the anode or cathode, the rectifying contact either the grid or anode and the third strip electrode 6 constitutes the remaining one of the anode cathode and grid. A further electrode may also be provided.
