Abstract

Disazo dyes of formula <f1> wherein R1 and R2 are residues of 1-amino8-hydroxynaphthalene sulphonic acids bound to the azo linkage in the 7-position in which the amino groups may be substituted and at least one residue contains two sulphonic acid groups and X1 and X2 are alkyl which may contain an ether link are prepared by coupling a tetrazotized 3,6,31,61 tetra-alkoxy, 4,41 diaminodiphenyl with one or more 1-amino-8-hydroxy sulphonic acids at least one of these acids having two sulphonic acid groups. The mono-sulphonic acid specified is the 4-acid while disulphonic acids are the 2:4, 3:5, 3:6 and 4:6 acids. The amino groups may be substituted by alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, phenyl, acetyl, benzoyl, or chloro benzoyl groups.
