Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of formula:-<FORM:0939904/IV(a)/1> in which R1 represents a 9,10-dihydroxyheptadecanyl radical, R2 represents the necessary atoms to complete a benzene ring or benzthiazole ring system, which may be substituted, and X is an oxygen atom or a nitrogen atom linked to a ring carbon atom of the benzene ring of R2. The compounds are prepared by reacting 9,10-dihydroxy stearyl acetic ethyl ester with a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl hydrazine to produce the pyrazolone derivatives or by using a 2-nitro phenyl hydrazine, followed by reduction and cyclisation to produce the pyrazolinobenzimidazole derivatives. The compounds are used as magenta colour couplers. Specification 918,128 is referred to.
