Abstract

An apparatus for the treatment of material in strip or hank form and comprising a trough supporting guiding and driving means for the material and also elements required for part at least of the treatment, and dome-like hoods <PICT:0939627/IV(a)/1> serving, in the treatment position, to envelop material undergoing treatment and also guides therefor or both guides and treatment elements and having lower open ends immersible in liquie when it is charged into the trough, is characterized by means for mountingthe hoods so that they will be readily removable into and out from the treatment position in combination with a partition extending upwardly from the trough into one or more of the hoods to constitute a plurality of compartments in which the liquid in one or more of the compartments can be maintained at a different level from that in another or others. Referring to the Figure trough 1 containing aqueous liquor is subdivided by partitions 2 and 21 giving different liquid levels 3 and 31 and contains heating elements 4, rollers 5 and hoods 10, 11, 12 and 13, the lower edge of which extends below the levels 3, 31 of the aqueous liquor. The hoods may be removed by gears 14 around which run cords 15 and may be evacuated so as to cause them to fill with liquid; they contain rollers, and heat treating means for the treatment of the materials.
