Abstract
939,217. Automatic control systems. BODENSEEWERK PERKIN-ELMER & CO. G.m.b.H. Jan. 12, 1960 [Jan. 13, 1959], No. 1033/60. Class 38 (4). [Also in Group XL (c)] In an automatic target tracking device an image of the target 1 is directed on to an image signal generating tube via an adjustable optical system 2 and the image signals produced when the electrode 10 is scanned spirally by the electron beam are converted in 15, 16 to pulses of constant amplitude and duration which are phase compared in device 18 with the two 90 degrees phase different sine waves controlling the spiral scan the comparison producing a control signal which is utilized to adjust the optical system 2 to maintain the image in the centre of electrode 10. In this position (the " blind-spot " of the spiral scan) no video signals are generated. When operating the device the selected target (which may be a small area within a more extended target) is arranged to be close to the origin of the spiral scan (the " blind-spot ") and separately generated blanking pulses are arranged to blank out the remainder of the field scanned.
