In an embodiment of a scan conversion storage system for radar displays (see Group XL(c)) the storage tube 1 reading beam is prevented from passing the edge of circular target 35 by imaging on to photo-cell or photomultiplier tube 21 a square raster scanning shortpersistence screen 17 synchronously with reading beam deflection via adjustable iris 19; only when the reading beam is on the storage target will the photo-cell be energized to intensity-modulate the normally cut-off reading beam, amplifier 22 may provide signals to blank scanning in ancillary apparatus, Fig. 4 (not shown).
