Abstract
938,874. Inductive control of apparatus. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. June 22, 1962 [June 27, 1961], No. 23225/61. Class 40 (5). [Also in Group XXXI] A vehicle 1 such as a tractor for use in the vehicle guidance system described in Specification 932,266, carries a sensing head 2 providing a signal from a buried energized cable to control the steering of the vehicle. To enable the vehicle to follow a number of parallel courses relative to the cable the head 2 is mounted on an endless loop flexible tape 7 passing round pulleys 5, 6 carried by a boom 3 in the form of a rack movable longitudinally either side of the vehicle by a pinion 4. The tape is anchored at 8 and thus will move relative to the boom so that when the boom is moved to its extreme left-hand position the head 2 will be at the left-hand end of the boom. Similarly, with the boom in its extreme right-hand position the head will be at the right-hand end of the boom and any intermediate positions also may be used.
