Abstract

1278929 Positioning systems CLARK EQUIPMENT CO 26 Oct 1970 [28 Nov 1969 50715/70 Heading G4H [Also in Division B8] A drive control system for a stacker truck in an automatic warehouse comprises means for producing a signal specific to the location of the truck, means for producing a signal specific to the destination of the truck and means for controlling the drive in accordance with the location and destination signals so that the truck is moved to a place where the signals correspond. As described, the truck 11, Fig. 1, is moved along an aisle 20 by a drive assembly 40. Coded magnetic assemblies 48A-48F, Figs. 2, 5, are provided one at each storage location. These comprise magnetic strips 50A-50F which are coded to characterize locations 22A-22F, and strobe magnets 52 which indicate that the truck is at a particular location and that information is available. Centring magnets 54 assist in accurately positioning the truck. These magnetic devices act on reed switches on the vehicle and groups of pulses are produced which are characteristic of each location. These groups of pulses are compared with the groups of pulses produced to form the destination signal and the truck is driven accordingly until the two signals coincide. The drive control signals enable the truck to be driven at three different speeds depending on the distance between the truck location and its destination. Specification 1,178,603 is referred to.
