Abstract
938,293. Electrophotographic processes. KALLE A.G. June 22, 1960 [June 27, 1959], No. 21838/60. Class 98 (2). A developer for use in electrophotographic processes comprises a toner formed by a metal resinate (metal salt of a resin acid) which acquires a change of negative polarity when used, and a carrier comprising inorganic substance. An image is formed in a photo-conductive layer of, for example, zinc oxide, selenium, 2,5 - bis [41 - diethyl - amino - phenyl - 1<SP>1</SP>]- 1,3,4 oxadiazole, and this is developed by a toner e.g. zinc, magnesium, calcium, manganese, cobalt, cobalt-lead-manganese, zinc-calcium, zinc resinates sold under the names " Erkazit- Hartz RF," " Magnesium-Hartharz VII2." " Kunstharzl," " Mangan Resinat RM 55," " Kobalt resinat A71," " Kobalt-Blei-Mangan- Resinat " No. 835, " Kunstharz 455," " Erkazit- Zinkkarz 165 (or RF)," respectively and other resinates of iron, copper, magnesium and barium. The melting point of the toner may be lowered by adding (1) phtholocyamines; (2) resins e.g. colophony, dammar, copals and ketone, maleic, alkyd and styrene resins ; (3) waxes such as carnauba, bees, Japan, montan and "A, OP, SOP Wachs," " K, P. S. L. O Gerstofener Wachst " 4) aromatic organic compounds e.g. naphthole, acenaphthene; ophenylenediamine, resorcinol and diphenyl amine. Dyes may be added to the resinates e.g. carbon-black, zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, ultramarine minium, Pigments Red and Green B; dyes containing copper, zinc, magnesium, iron, sodium or potassium such as chlorophyll, copper, zinc or magnesium phthalocyanines; Naphthol Green 5, Toluidine Blue O, Methyline Green B, Acridin Orange 2G, Fanal Red 6B, Fanal Violet LB, Fanal Blue B, Alizarin Blue- Black B, Diamond Black F, Nigrosin, Pigment Deep Black, Auramine, Brilliant Yellow Eosin, Rhodamine B, Sudan Black G. The toners are mixed with carriers e.g. glass, iron, potassium sulphate and chloride, sodium chloride and are applied to the image bearing surface with for example a magnet. The image may be fixed by the application of heat or trichloro-ethylene vapours.
