Abstract

937,957. Fluid bearings. BRISTOL SIDDELEY ENGINES Ltd. Aug. 13, 1962 [Sept. 22, .1961], No. 33956/61. Glass 12 (1). A diaphragm for mounting the stationary outer member 15 of a gas journal bearing from a stationary structure 16, 17 (Fig. 5) includes an annular portion 10 (Fig. 3) secured thereto, an annular portion 11 secured to the stationary bearing outer member 15, and spokes 14a interconnecting the portions 10, 11, normally to hold one of the latter in a plane which is axially displaced from the plane of the other. The spokes 14a may be straight and inclined and may extend tangentially from the portion 11 in the direction opposite to that of rotation of the bearing, or they may be straight and directed radially. In securing the diaphragm the portion 10 (Fig. 5) is fast with rings 18, 19 and is clamped between flanges 16a, 17a, the portion 11 being clamped between rings 22 and 23.
