937,954. Polishing and deburring. TECHNOCHEMIE A.G. Nov. 28, 1960 [Nov. 26, 1959], No. 40755/60. Class 60. Metallic articles, e.g. horological parts, are de-burred and polished by submerging them in a fluent mixture of liquid and abrasive particles having a free surface in a container subjecting the said surface to a pressure atmosphere and causing motion in the mixture. Workpieces are submerged in a fluent mixture of liquid and abrasive particles, e.g. a suspension containing carborundum, in an open container 1 the bottom of which carries an ultrasonic head 3 for causing motion in the mixture. The container 1 is located in a housing 6 to which compressed air is admitted through an inlet 8 to produce a pressure of e.g. 30 atm. In a modification the container is closed and the compressed air is admitted to it to produce a pressure of 30-40 atm. Instead of employing an ultrasonic head, motion in the mixture may be caused by a sonic vibrator or by rotating the container, and if desired the workpieces may also be subjected to magnetic forces in alternating directions.
