[Also in Divisions B1 and B2] Apparatus for processing particles comprises a resiliently mounted container 1, Fig. 1, a vibrating shaft 3 which imparts a threedimensional vibration to the container, and an opening in the wall of the container leading to a drain passage 5, the opening being so arranged that, during a working process, the contents of the container which move in a helical path due to the vibrations acting in one direction, pass over the orifice but upon removal of the vibrations; pass through the orifice into -the drain passage. The apparatus may be used for grinding, milling, coating or mixing and the container has inner and outer walls forming a circular, triangular, rhomboidal or other shaped chamber having a sharp bend. The outer wall is formed with the opening leading to an upwardly inclined drain passage 5. When the shaft 3 carrying eccentric weights 4 is rotated in one direction, the vibrations imparted to the container cause the contents of the container, which may be particles to be treated by abrasive chips larger or smaller than the particles, to move in a helical path around the container in the direction B. When the shaft is rotated in the reverse directions, the contents move in the direction E and through the opening into the drain passage. The chamber may have a portion containing a screen for separating the particles to be treated from the abrasive, the abrasive passing along a passage heading into the chamber and the particles to a collecting tank. In another embodiment, the apparatus has two treatment chambers 40, Fig. 9, vibrated by a shaft 41 having a lower eccentric weight 42 and an upper eccentric weight in a housing 43. Each chamber has a drain passage 46, screening portion 47, discharge passage 48 and return passage 49.
