Abstract

937,611. Electronic counting - apparatus. RACAL ELECTRONICS Ltd. March 31, 1960 [April 1, 1959], No. 11010/59. Drawings to Specification. Class 106 (1). In a reversible electronic counter, means are provided for determining whether the member registered therein is positive, negative or zero. As described, series of alternate " add " and " subtract " check pulses are supplied to an n stage decimal counter at times different from the pulses to be counted and the state of the highest decimal order is observed. The n stage counter is restricted to a capacity Π10<SP>n-1</SP>-1, negative numbers being registered in complement form and according as highest order remains at " 0 " or " 9," the number registered is positive or negative. If the highest order changes repeatedly at the check pulse frequency between " 9 " and " 0," the number registered in the counter is zero. The highest order may be connected to a flip-flop, the changing state of this when zero is registered in the counter being detected by a differentiating and integrating circuit. The invention is particularly applicable to counters employing ferrite cores.
