Abstract
937,205. Protective systems. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 13, 1960 [Oct. 29, 1959], No. 36769/59. Class 38 (5). A distance protective arrangement comprises a voltage transformer 4 for producing a first voltage proportional to the voltage of the protected circuit 1, a capacitor-resistor network 8, 9 for modifying the first voltage by eliminating from it the component proportional to the RI component of the circuit voltage, a linear mutual inductor 6 having a non-ferro-magnetic core and providing a second voltage proportional to the rate of change of the circuit current, a comparison circuit 3 for comparing the modified first voltage with the vector difference of the modified first voltage and the second voltage, and a protective device 5 energized from the comparison circuit to disconnect the protected circuit when the comparison indicates a fault in the protected circuit. The comparison circuit includes transistor coincidence circuits which effect phase comparison for both the negative and positive half-cycles of the input voltages and energize a relay 5<SP>1</SP> controlling a trip coil 5 only when the input voltages applied to the comparison circuit over two successive half-cycles indicate that a fault exists on the protected circuit.
