Abstract
A silicone rubber vulcanized at room temperature with a tin catalyst contains dispersed therein a radio-active source. The room-temperature-curing compositions are well known, e.g. admixtures of dimethylpolysiloxanes containing Si-bonded H atoms or -OH or alkoxy radicals, with stannous octoate or dibutyl tin dilaurate as curing catalyst, and with or without fillers, e.g. TiO2, CaCO3 and Fe2O3, and customary additives. Radio-active constituents disclosed are the isotopes Cr51, Au192, Br82, I131, P32, Y90, Cl36, Cs137, As74, Fe59 and Co60 and compounds thereof such as sodium iodide, chromate and phosphate, chromic chloride and phosphate, caesium chloride and yttrium chloride and oxide. Examples are given. The compositions can be formed into sheets, pellets and plugs of various shapes and can be introduced into small bore rubber tubing by means of a plastic hypodermic syringe.
