936,828. Spinning processes. S. LIPETZ, and A. LIPETZ. Dec. 11, 1959, No. 42264/59. Drawings to Specification. Class 120 (3). Nylon fibre is reclaimed from scrap material comprising such fibre covered with unvulcanized rubber by subjecting the material to successive and, if necessary, alternately repeated treatments of dissolving a major proportion of the rubber in a selective solvent; separating nylon fibre from the resulting rubber solution, e.g. by filtration, decantation or centrifuging; contacting this fibre with an aqueous oxidizing agent so as to remove rubber still adhering to the fibre, and recovering the nylon by mechanical agitation, e.g. in a ball mill, washing and drying. The solvent may be gasoline, derivatives of petroleum, benzene and its homologues, e.g. toluene and xylene, and chlorinated derivatives of methane, e.g. carbon tetrachloride and dichloro-ethylene. Oxidizing agent may be sodium hypochlorite, calcium hypochlorite, hydrogen peroxide, potassium permanganate, or potassium bichromate.
