Abstract

The invention comprises sulpha-pyridazines of the formula <FORM:0936505/IV(a)/1> and salts thereof, wherein R is a C1-4 branched or unbranched alkyl group, e.g. CH3, C2H5, and their preparation by oxidising a 3-amino-6-alkylthiopyridazine, suitably by treating with 30% aqueous hydrogen peroxide at 60-80 DEG C., reacting the resulting 3-amino-6-alkylsulphinyl-pyridazine (e.g. the 6-methylsulphinyl or 6-ethylsulphinyl 3-amino-pyridazines) with a benzenesulphohalide X,C6H4,SO2,Hal, wherein X is an amino radical or a radical convertible to an amino group by hydrolysis, e.g. a carbethoxyamino group, in the presence of a hydrogen halide-binding agent, e.g. pyridine, at an elevated temperature, preferably at 75-85 DEG C., and if necessary converting the para-substituent, X, into an amino group.
