Abstract

936,192. Sewing machines. ROTHENBORG SPECIALMASKINER FOR SY - INDUSTRIES A.S. April 6, 1961 [April 8, 1960], No. 12498/60. Class 112. [Also in Groups VIII and XVII] A frame structure, positioned adjacent a sewing machine, has a slidably-mounted workreceiving member which is movable from a position adjacent the edge of the work-supporting surface of the sewing machine to a position remote from the sewing machine, whereby a sewn article is able to pass over the member in the first position, and is folded over the member so as to hang on each side of it as the member moves to the second position. A stand 24, located at the rear of a sewing machine 10, has two upright tubular members 26, 28 which telescopically receive bars 23, 25 fixable in vertical adjustment by clamps 27, 29. Rigidly fixed to the upper ends of bars 23, 25 are the lower ends of bars 18, 20 which slope upwardly at an angle of 45 degrees and are connected together at their upper ends by a bar 19. Bars 18, 20 slidably receive the ends of a bar 16 adapted to be moved upwardly by a motor 32 and a chain drive mounted on bar 20. When bar 16 is in its lowermost position, a sewn article leaving machine 10 moves downwardly over the curved rear edge of the work-supporting table 14 and passes over bar 16. Motor 32 is then operated, and the article becomes folded over and hangs down on each side of bar 16 during the upward movement of the latter. A downwardlyprojecting apron may be fixed to bar 16. A limit switch 38 is operated by bar 16 in its uppermost position to de-energize motor 32, when bar 16 descends under gravity to its lowermost position. Fingers 110, 112 pivoted on bar 16 are spring-biased to hold the article thereon, and are arranged to be moved away from bar 16, when the latter approaches its lowermost position, by engaging abutments 113, 115 provided on arms 114, 116 fixed to bars 18, 20. Bars 18, 20 may, alternatively, be pivoted to bars 23, 25 and be adjustable to slope upwards between angles of 30 degrees and 75 degrees. Motor 32 is started automatically when a knife blade 98 is operated manually to sever the thread chain between a pair of sewn articles. Blade 98 is carried by a plunger 96 biased upwardly by a spring 104, and adapted to be moved downwardly by a solenoid 92 when a switch 90 is closed manually by an actuating member 91. When plunger 96 moves downwardly, a pin 100 thereon operates an actuating member 51 for a switch 50 to energize the motor 32.
