Abstract

1,021,888. Bundling-apparatus. PRICES TAILORS Ltd. Dec. 29, 1964 [Dec. 6, 1963], No. 48208/63. Heading B8C. [Also in Division D1] Apparatus for stacking a succession of garments, cloth pieces or the like articles from a work-table after they have been operated upon, comprises a horizontal tube mounted adjacent the edge of the work-table, said tube having outlets directed away from the table and being connectible through a valve to a source of compressed air, a pivoted arm arranged to move against a stationary clamping surface below the tube, and operator-actuated means for moving said arm and admitting compressed air to said tube for blowing said articles in turn over said arm. As shown, a sewing-machine stand 1 has a table top 2 carrying on its underside a pivoted bracket 3 actuated by a knee pad 4 to raise the sewing-machine presser foot. An extension 5 on bracket 3 is adapted, if the latter is moved against spring bias beyond its normal presser foot-lifting position, to open a valve 7 to admit compressed air, via a pipe 9, to a pivoted cylinder 10. The piston-rod 12 of the" latter passes slidably through a bar 13 rigid with a pivoted treadle 14, and presses against bar 13 through a spring 15. A slotted plate 17 on treadle 14 slidably supports the free end of a cranked arm 18 rigid with a pivoted arm 19 carrying a horizontal clamping bar 20 movable against a stationary clamping face 22. A horizontal tube 23, positioned under the table top and above face 22, is formed with outwardlydirected vents and is connected by a pipe 25 to a valve 26. The arrangement is such that a workpiece on completion is moved to a position G1 overhanging the edge of the table in front of face 22 and tube 23, and knee pad 4 is operated to open valve 7. Piston-rod 12 thereupon descends to swing arm 19 for clamping the workpiece in position 92 between bar 20 and face 22. The piston-rod then descends further to open valve 26 for admitting compressed air to tube 23, whereby the upper end of the workpiece is blown over bar 20. On release of knee pad 4, bar 19 returns to its original position with the workpiece draped over it in position G3. A succession of workpieces is stacked on bar 20 to form a bundle which is fastened by a tie laid in a groove 21 provided in bar 20, and which is then removed. It is stated that if the presser foot-lifting mechanism is operated by a treadle, the latter may be arranged to operate first the arm 19 to grip the workpiece, and then the valve 26 to blow the workpiece over the bar 20.
