Abstract
936,155. Safes; sliding bolts. RATNER SAFE CO. Ltd. June 1, 1961 [July 29, 1960], No. 26605/60. Class 44. Relates to locking apparatus of the kind comprising one or more bolts, bolt-operating means for moving the or each bolt between shot and retracted positions and bolt-locking means operable to prevent withdrawal of the or each bolt out of its door-locking position. According to the invention the apparatus includes at least one bolt tail for the bolt or bolts, such tail being formed in two parts which are movable relative to one another and coupling means for interconnecting the two parts only when the bolt locking means is in its unlocked position the bolt-operating means being arranged to act upon that part of the bolt tail which is uncoupled from the door bolt or bolts when the bolt locking means is in its locked position. As shown, a bolt bar 1 carrying a pair of bolts 2 includes a bolt tail 3 which co-operates with a lock bolt 4 of locking means 5, and a bolt tail 6 which is formed in two parts 7, 8 which are loosely connected by a coupling 9 engageable with slots 10 in the bolt tail 6. The part 8 of the bolt tail 6 is engageable by an arm through which both bolts 2 are movable by a handle 14 within limits imposed by pin-and-slot devices 15, 16. The coupling 9 is supported by a platform 7 which is rigidly connected to the bolt 4 through a shank 18<SP>1</SP>, the arrangement being such that in the unlocked position of the locking means 5, the bolt tail parts 7 and 8 are connected together by the coupling 9 and the bolts 2 may be moved to their shot position by the handle 14. If the locking means 5 is subsequently locked, bolt 4 blocks the bolt bar 1 and the parts 7 and 8 are disconnected. A flange 19 on the part 8 overlies one side of the part 7 such that if the handle 14 is operated while the locking means 5 is locked and the parts 7 and 8 become separated, the coupling 9 becomes blocked by the flange 19 and thus prevents unlocking of the locking means 5. In an alternative form the coupling may be arranged to encompass two projections depending one from each of the adjacent ends of the bolt tail 6. Specification 770,431 is referred to.
