Abstract

935,843. Mine roof supports. BWG BERGWERK-UND WALZWERK-MASCHINENBAU G.m.b.H. May 20, 1960, No. 17854/60. Class 20 (2). A self-advancing mine roof support, Fig. 1, comprises at least two telescopic pit props 1, 2, connected to a double-acting telescopic beam 3, 4, 17, 18 in such a manner that the props may be adjustably lifted in succession clear of the floor and advanced with their associated beam portion. Hydraulic pit props having hollow piston and cylinder units 6, 5 respectively interconnected by means of a valve 8 may be used or pit props having mechanical friction locking means actuated by cables or hydraulic locking cylinders. The release valve such as 8 is actuated by a cable 21 which is connected to a lever 10, an adjustable toggle 24 on the member 2 and the piston 17. The props and beam units are hydraulically connected to an automatic control device 13 adapted in turn to raise the member 2 and advance same with the member 4, brace the member 2, raise and advance the member 1 together with the member 3 and then brace said member 1 (see Figs. 2-7, not shown). The support may be used in conjunction with a portable pump and a pressure accumulator for details of which the Specification and Fig. 8 (not shown), of the drawings should be referred to. The beam consists of an inner portion 39, Fig. 10, connected to the prop 1 and two interconnected outer portions 40, 40<SP>1</SP> connected to the prop 2, the portion 39 being hollow to accommodate the member 18 and, if desired, the pressure accumulator.
