Abstract

935,749. Milling cutters. L. OPPOLD. June 3, 1960 [June 15, 1959], No. 11691/63. Divided out of 935,748. Class 83 (3). [Also in Group XXIII] A rotary cutter comprises a disc 10 having one or more cutter blades 15 mounted thereon, each with a cutting edge 17 located outwardly of the periphery of the disc and each blade, in the direction of rotation of the disc, being preceded by a guard plate 16 also projecting from the periphery of the disc with its projecting end 19 traversing a circle of smaller radius than that traversed by the cutting edge of the blade, the blade and guard plate, or each associated pair thereof, being secured by soldering to the disc or a member supported thereon. The blades and guard plates may be soldered to notches 13, 14 in the end walls of recesses 11, 12 which are offset from radial lines of the disc, the cutting edges of the blades being arranged to traverse a circle of greater diameter, e.g. about 0.8 mm., than that of the ends of the guard plates. In another embodiment, the blades and guard plates are secured in separate recesses and may extend obliquely to the axis of the disc. In a further embodiment, each blade 35, Fig. 4, and its associated guard plate 36 are secured to recesses in a cylindrical block 37 rotatably adjustable in a recess in the disc 10.
