Abstract

1447759 Cutters for rotary mowers MASSEY-FERGUSON-PERKINS Ltd 21 Sept 1973 [7 Oct 1972] 46381/72 Heading A1F A cutter 38, Fig. 2, for a rotary mower comprises a blade 40, from which projects a mounting portion 42 of circular cross section which is integral with a semi circular end piece 44. The mounting portion passes through an aperture 50 in a rotor 32 and is held in place by the end piece engaging with the free end of a resilient bar 62 which abuts a casing 52 rivetted to the underside of the rotor. The cutter is therefore free to rotate about an axis 72, whilst a chamfered region 46 on the end piece permits the blade to move in a vertical plane upon striking an obstruction. For its removal from the rotor, the cutter is rotated through 180‹ after which the resilient bar 62 may be depressed, the cutter then being drawn out through the aperture in the rotor. In a second embodiment, Fig. 5, the cutter is held on the rotor by a detachable rectangular retaining plate 92 bolted to a support plate 88. The retaining plate has a semicircular slot at its outer end which is aligned with a similar slot in the rotor, the aperture formed by the two permitting the cutter to rotate about a vertical axis 94 and move in a vertical plane upon striking an obstruction. In both embodiments, the region of the rotor surrounding the attachment point of each cutter may be inclined downwards in the direction of rotation, thus causing the blades to tilt in like manner.
