In a process for the aerobic treatment of sewage on rotating plastic plates covered with biological fuzz, the return flow of sludge or activated sewage is a result of the difference in height on opposite sides of the plate assembly 3 caused by rotation of the plates. The sewage return may be by means of a conduit 7 or by means of the built in by-pass 13. In more detailed combinations of plates (not shown) weirs and walls are arranged to allow progressive treatment of sewage.
