Abstract

Pellets of hay or other similar plant material, e.g. sugar cane, are prepared by masticating the hay to crush, rupture and tear it and compressing, e.g. at 200 to 1600 p.s.i., the resultant damp limp fibrous mass into pellets, the juices liberated during the mastication acting as binding agent. Before mastication the moisture content of the hay is preferably 14 to 35%.
