Abstract

934,740. Self-healing capacitors. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. Oct. 6, 1961 [Oct. 7, 1960], 35957/61. Class 37. In a self-healing capacitor with metal coatings applied by vapour deposition of e.g. zinc to dielectric strips 12, leaving metal free zones on the strip 12, the high electric field intensities normally produced at the coating edges 14, Fig. 1, are prevented by providing on the dielectric strip between the coating edge 14 and the metal free zone, a semi-conducting strip 15 having a width of at least 0.2 mm. and a surface resistance of at least 10<SP>6</SP> ohms. Carbon, selenium, silicon, silver chloride, or oxides of zinc, silver, nickel, tungsten or cadmium may be used for the semi-conductor strip, which is preferably not more than 2% of the coating width. The semi-conductor coating may extend over the whole width of the dielectric strip either over or under the metal coating.
