Abstract

934,319. Shot guns. OLIN MATHIESON CHEMICAL CORPORATION. Feb. 27, 1962 [March 1, 1961], No. 7657/62. Class 119. A " twist-open " shot gun comprises a butt stock assembly including a butt stock 11 and locking block 15 secured thereto and a detachable barrel assembly including a barrel 10 and barrel block 18, the locking block 15 carrying a pin 17 received in the barrel block 18 to permit rotation of the barrel assembly about an axis generally parallel to the barrel axis for ejection and loading of cartridges. A removable forearm 20 engages the barrel frictionally at its forward end and has a bridge member 26 at its rear end co-operating with the pin 17 and an undercut 28 formed in the barrel whereby the forearm is held fixed when the butt stock and barrel assemblies are operatively connected. A combined ejector and lock means 37 housed in the barrel block 18 serves to eject a spent cartridge when the barrel assembly is rotated to an open position (see Fig. 7) and cooperates with a cam surface on the locking block 15 to lock the two assemblies against rotation when they are in the firing position. Mating undercuts formed in the block 15 and barrel 10 interlock with one another as shown at 43, Fig. 3. On opening the barrel and pulling thereon a split ring 22 is depressed into a groove in the pin 17 and the barrel and barrel block slide off the pin as a unit.
