Abstract

934,213. Respiratory apparatus. LAVO RAZ VARIE APPARECCHI SALVATAGGIO, S. A. and R. SPIOTTA. March 22, 196( [April 4, 1959], No. 10056/60. Class 81 (2). A respiratory air delivery unit comprises a casing 1 closed by a diaphragm 6, which is covered by an apertured cap 9, breathing tubes 2, 3 connected with the casing interior, an air inlet valve 28 in a nozzle 19 operated by ar upper lever 42 and a lower lever 33 in response to movements of the diaphragm and an exhaust valve 23 concentric with the nozzle. The valve comprises a plunger 28 which is urged by a spring 29 to close a bore 30 in the nozzle. The nozzle is threaded in a sleeve 14 extending from a cylinder 12 secured to the casing 1. On inhalation the valve is opened against the spring by a needle 31 which is engaged by the lower lever 33, the free end of which is engaged by the upper lever 42 which contacts the diaphragm. The levers 33, 42 are pivoted on a bridge of U- shaped cross-section which is fixed at one end by a screw 36 and is adjustable at the other end. for varying the position of the lever pivots 34. 41, by a screw 39 which is accessible from outside the apparatus. On exhalation, the normally closed flap valve 23, which is mounted on an extension 20 of the nozzle 19, opens due to exhalation pressure in the casing 1 so that gas is vented to atmosphere through openings 46 in the cylinder 12. A gas cylinder is secured to the sleeve 14 by a stirrup 16 and bolt 17, a filter 27 being disposed in the entrance to the sleeve bore 25.
