Abstract

A fertilizer comprises ammonium nitrate, urea and an inert filler in which the weight per cent proportions respectively are in the range from 60 : (35-5) : (5-35) to 80 : 15 : 5, the sum of the weights of the urea and filler being at least 20%, the proportion of urea and filler each being at least 5% and in compositions containing more than 70% of ammonium nitrate the minimum proportion of urea increasing by 1% for each additional 1% of ammonium nitrate. The filler may be chalk, ground limestone, gypsum, anhydrite or china clay. The presence of the urea reduces the fire hazard. The fertilizer may be granulated and the granules may be coated with oil and an inert powder. Examples are given.
