Abstract

933,954. Coiling. BENNETT TOOLS Ltd. May 11, 1962 [May 11, 1961], No. 17177/61. Class 83 (4). A wire coiling machine of the kind which includes a rotatable mandrel 10, a wire guide 16 mounted on a carriage 11 which is movable parallel to the mandrel 10, a cam surface 12 movable in a direction transverse to the length of said mandrel 10 and a coacting cam follower 13 connected to the carriage 11, said cam surface being movable by rack and pinion means 15 and the arrangement being such that coiling of the wire is effected by rotating the mandrel 10 and simultaneously moving the cam surface 12 in said transverse direction so as to move the carriage 11 in a direction parallel to the length of the mandrel, is characterized in that there is provided a wire guide 16 which is formed with one or more channels or grooves 20 adapted to guide the wire on to the mandrel 10, the arrangement being such that when wire to form a coil 17 has been fed into the machine the wire to which the rear or trailing end of the coil 17 is attached can be lifted from the guide groove or channel 20 in which it is disposed and can thereafter be severed after the leading end of the coil has been released without further movement of the carriage. The mandrel 10 may be rotated by a handle 14 which also turns the pinion 15.
