Abstract
933,858. Electric motors. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Jan. 27, 1960 [Jan 30, 1959], No. 3376/59. Class 35. In a squirrel cage rotor, for an induction motor, which includes rotor laminations 10 having tunnelled conductor slots 11 immediately adjacent the outer periphery of the rotor and spaced therefrom by shallow slot-closing bridges, at least the majority of the laminations are notched on the periphery at positions radially aligned with the slots and the bottoms of the notches 12 have a predetermined spacing from the slots so that despite a final turning operation a constant depth of slot-closing bridge is obtained around the rotor. Preferably the notches and slots are punched in one operation, and as shown the end laminations 13 are unnotched to prevent the notches being filled with metal in a rotor whose winding is die-cast. If the winding comprises bars brazed to end rings, all laminations are notched.
