Abstract

933,839. Blowing lances; feeding granular materials. POLLOCK & PEEL Ltd. June 8, 1962 [June 12, 1961], No. 21156/61. Classes 51 (1) and 51 (2). [Also in Groups XXII and XXIX] A nozzle for the simultaneous discharge of gas and powder has a through hole for the powder which is lined with a hard metal tube held in position by a swaging operation carried out on the nozzle body exterior. Referring to Fig. 6, the four gas carrying holes 2 extend substantially axially through the tellurium copper nozzle 1 and lie on the same pitch circle at the nozzle outlet end as do the four holes containing the powder tubes 4; the latter four holes taper inwardly along the nozzle axis towards the inlet end so as to lie on a smaller pitch circle than the gas holes 2. Seamless stainless steel tubes 4 are inserted in the four nozzle holes and lengths of hard wire 5 are placed in each tube 4. The outlet end of the nozzle is then swaged to the tapered, fluted configuration shown in Fig. 1, and the wires 5 withdrawn from the tubes 4, which has the effect of burnishing the tuba bore to precisely its required diameter. The inlet end of the nozzle is turned and threaded as in Fig. 1, the gas holes 2 ending in the face A and the powder tubes ending in the face B.
