Abstract

The powder is carried by a gas stream flowing along the axis of the lance, which has a single outlet hole dipping below the surface of the melt. The gas stream (I) carrying the powder is surrounded by a concentric stream (II) of gas which converges onto (I) at the lance outlet hole. The pref. lance consists of two concentric tubes (a1,b1), the outer tube (b1) possessing a truncated cone end forming the outlet hole and carrying stream (II). The inner tube forms an annular channel for (II) and carries stream (I). The inner tube pref. ends before the outlet hole formed by the outer tube, and the inner tube can pref. be adjusted axially in the outer tube. Blockage of the lance by molten metal is avoided.
