Abstract

933,746. Automatic fire-arms. BOFORS A.B. Feb. 14, 1962 [Feb. 22, 1961], No. 5663/62. Class 92. Relates to an automatic fire-arm in which a loading pendulum or tray 10, Fig. 1, is supported for angular movement between a position in which it constitutes an extension of a hoist 4 and a position (see Fig. 2) from which ramming of a round can be carried out regardless of the elevation movement of the firearm. The loading pendulum 10 is moved between these positions by a driving device which gives a'lever 18 an oscillating movement of fixed amplitude, the lever being connected to the pendulum by a link mechanism which is controlled in dependence upon the position of elevation of the fire-arm whereby to reduce or increase the angular movement given to the pendulum by the same amount as the elevation is increased or reduced. A lever 5 fixed to the elevating recoil jacket 1 is articulated to one end of a guide bar 6, the other end of which mounts a roller 7 running in a guide 9 fixed to a non-elevating part 2 of the mounting. The loading pendulum 10 is supported for rotation about trunnion axis 3 and is rigidly connected to a lever 11. A driving bar 12 incorporating a shock-absorbing buffer 13 has one end articulated to the lever 11 while the other end mounts a roller 14 running both in a driving guide 15 and in a groove 8 in the guide bar 6. One end of the guide 15 is pivoted at 16 and its other end pivoted to a driving bar 17 connected to the lever 18. When the driving mechanism (not shown) moves the lever 18 from the position shown in Fig. 1 to that of Fig. 2, the parts move as shown and the pendulum 10 is moved to the loading position. If the fire-arm is elevated with the loading pendulum 10 in the hoising position, the parts move as shown in Fig. 3 and the pendulum is not actuated during elevation. If the gun is elevated with the loading pendulum 10 in the ramming position, the position of the pendulum relative to the recoil jacket 1 will not be changed (see Fig. 4) and movement of the lever 18 from the Fig. 3 to Fig. 4 position will cause a reduced movement of the pendulum 10, the reduction in angular movement compared with that shown in Figs. 1 and 2 corresponding to the increase in elevation. A modified form of link mechanism is described with reference to Fig. 6 (not shown).
