Abstract

933,553. Pumps; syringes. E. P. SANDHOLM. April 29, 1960, No. 15217/60. Classes 102(1) and 102(2). In a grease gun of the kind having a cylindrical grease container 10, a dispensing head 11 comprising a manually operated piston 28 within a cylinder 26 to withdraw grease from the container and force it through an outlet 34 and an inlet opening 38 through which grease can be pumped into the forward portion of the container, and a slidable plunger assembly arranged for movement away from and toward the dispensing head, the plunger assembly comprises a cup shaped piston 15<SP>1</SP> of flexible resilient material having outwardly flaring side walls 15a<SP>1</SP> extending towards the rear of the container, all other components of the plunger assembly being spaced inwardly of the walls of the container and annular positive stop means 17<SP>1</SP> is provided fixed within the rearward portion of the container to cooperate with the outermost side wall portion 15a<SP>1</SP> to restrict further rearward movement of the piston whilst maintaining engagement between said outermost portion and the inner walls of the container. A sealing gasket 25<SP>1</SP> may be provided at the bottom of annular pockets 24<SP>1</SP>. A modified form of stop means formed by an annular member clamped between the end cap and the walls of the container is also described.
