Abstract

The invention comprises a -pyrrolidino ketones of the general formula: <FORM:0933507/IV(a)/1> (in which R is a halogen or hydrogen atom, a C1-3 alkyl or alkoxy group, a hydroxyl group, R1 represents an alkyl group containing two to eight carbon atoms and R11 represents a hydrogen atom or a C1-3 alkyl group), their non-toxic acid addition salts and the preparation thereof by reacting an a -halogeno-ketone of the formula <FORM:0933507/IV(a)/2> (wherein X is a halogen atom) is reacted with a pyrrolidine of the general formula <FORM:0933507/IV(a)/3> and pharmaceutical compositions containing them. Compounds wherein R is a hydroxyl group are prepared by hydrolysis of the corresponding alkoxy groups. a -Halogeno ketones (II) are prepared by bromination of the corresponding ketones. a -Chlorovalerophenone is prepared by chlorination of valerophenone. Pharmaceutical compositions comprise the ketones of the invention together with an inert diluent or carrier and may be formulated as tablets, dragees, solutions, suspensions, syrups, elixirs, emulsions or drops. The compounds are central nervous system stimulants, and, in some cases, hypertensive and spasmolytic agents.
