In an electro-pneumatic control system comprising an electrical computer 95 feeding signals to an electromagnetically operated valve 11 which supplies a control signal to a controlled apparatus such as a relay valve 66 for a pneumatic controller governing a pneumatic valve 103, a reservoir 63 and an electromagnetically actuated valve 45 connected to the electric power supply to the computer are interposed between the valve 11 and the relay valve 66 whereby, on failure of the electric power supply the valve 45 is closed and the relay valve is maintained in the position it occupied at failure. The valve 11 has an output chamber 27 the pressure in which acts on a diaphragm 18 so that the pressure is related to the degree of energization of the electromagnet 16, excess pressure lifting a seat 25 from a valve rod 31 to vent the chamber through openings 26, 22 and insufficient pressure causing downward movement of the diaphragm to open a pressure supply valve 32. The relay valve 66 is similar to the valve 11 except that venting of the output chamber 78 takes place through an opening 72 between a pair of interconnected diaphragms 70, 71 so that the operating chamber 69 above the diaphragm assembly is sealed when the valve 45 is closed. The purpose of the reservoir 63 is to maintain pressure in the chamber 69 when the valve 45 is closed despite leakages in the system.
