Abstract

1,133,864. Fluid pressure control valves. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. 1 June, 1967 [9 March, 1966], No. 10373/66. Heading F2V. [Also in Division A5] A valve, suitable for controlling an air pressure operated artificial limb, comprises a chamber 2 and a service outlet 11, pressure within the chamber being regulated by a lever 12 acting on a tubular member 8 having a passage 9 therethrough. When in the position shown, chamber 2 communicates with passage 9 and is so vented to atmosphere. Upon movement of the lever to the left, as seen in the drawing, member 8 is brought into abutment with a diaphragm 5 which is thereby raised from its annular seat 3, towards which it is biased by a tubular rubber member 5, bringing the chamber into communication with a fluid pressure inlet 6. This pressure acts on a further diaphragm 7, connected to member 8, tending to balance the opening force, as applied by the lever, and upon substantially equalling this force, which couldalso be as a consequence of a reduction in force supplied to the lever, moves member 8 sufficiently far for the diaphragm to be seated. If the reduction in force applied to the lever is sufficiently big, then upon the diaphragm becoming seated, member 8 moves away from it thereby venting chamber 2 to atmosphere. The lever operating mechanism may be substituted by an electrical solenoid arrangement.
