932,781. Seats; furniture combinations. J. A. LING. May 23, 1962 [June 19, 1961], No. 22032/61. Classes 52 (2) and 52 (3). An invalid chair comprises side supports 1, 2 securable in spaced relationship by one or more cross-members 3, 4, a seat 6 carried by the side supports, a back rest 8 engageable in any selected one of a series of positions to adjust the front-to-rear depth of the chair, and spacer means 13 carried by the side supports and capable of variations in width to adjust the available width of the chair. A fixed back board 3, disposed behind the back-rest 8, and a front plate 4 are releasably engageable with the side supports 1, 2. Grooves 15 are provided in the sides 1, 2 to support a foot rest 16 in a selected position of height. The back-rest 8 is engageable at its side edges in any selected pair of horizontally-spaced grooves 7 in the side supports. A groove 5 is provided for the seat 6. A removable portion 33 in the seat enables the chair to be used as a commode. The spacer means 13 comprise a plurality of boards mutually engageable by dovetail recesses and tenons 14. Dovetail tenons 12 on the outer boards engage dovetail grooves 11 in the side supports 1, 2. Head pads 31 are adjustably mounted on the back-rest. A table 18 which helps to retain the invalid in the chair is releasably secured to the side supports by retractable bolts 19 in one of a series of apertures 21 in each side support. Hinged flaps 23, 24, 25 are provided on the table.
