Abstract

932,299. Discharge-apparatus. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 2, 1962 [Feb. 9, 1961], No. 4905/61. Class 39 (1). A magnetic deflection system for deflecting a vertical beam of charged particles emerging from a D.C. accelerator, e.g. of the Van de Graaff type, into a horizontal direction comprises two 45 degree deflection magnets 15 whose distance apart can be adjusted to ensure that the final beam is parallel sided. Particles of heavier mass are diverted through a side tube 22 to a target 23 where an electrical signal is derived and utilized to stabilize the voltage of the accelerator.
